Behind The Gilded Garden

At the heart of The Gilded Garden is Penny, whose love of flowers is rooted in something deeper than beautiful design. With more than 25 years of experience as a counselor, she brings the same warmth, thoughtfulness, and attention to people into every arrangement she creates.

Alongside her is Tanner, bringing a fresh perspective and creative energy to the studio. Together, they create garden-inspired flowers that feel personal, artful, and thoughtfully chosen for the moments that matter most.

Beautiful flowers. Thoughtfully designed. Made with meaning.

Meet Penny: Owner & Lead Designer

Penny is the owner and lead designer of The Gilded Garden in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Before becoming a florist, she spent over 25 years working as a mental health counselor. Her work was centered around listening, paying close attention to the details people shared, and understanding what they were truly trying to express.

She realized that this is exactly what many people struggle with when sending flowers. They don’t just want to send something beautiful, they want it to feel right for the person receiving it.

When customers aren't quite sure what to send, Penny doesn’t begin with a catalog. She begins by listening. She starts with questions - about the recipient’s personality, their style, their favorite colors, and the relationship they share. Every arrangement is thoughtfully designed around that person and the meaning behind the gesture.

Her goal is simple: to help people express care, comfort, and celebration in a way that feels personal, never generic.

For Penny, flowers are more than something beautiful to send. They're a way to say what sometimes can't quite be put into words.

Meet Tanner: Floral Designer

Tanner brings a fresh creative perspective and a genuine love of flowers to The Gilded Garden.

Raised on a beef farm and no stranger to hard work, Tanner discovered her love of flowers after spending summers working in a garden nursery. Her connection to nature continues to influence her relaxed, garden-inspired approach to floral design.

Working alongside Penny, Tanner brings her own youthful creativity while learning and carrying forward the thoughtful, artful design style that defines The Gilded Garden.

When she's not designing, you'll likely find her paddle boarding, hiking, or enjoying Moose Tracks ice cream with friends.

Her easygoing personality, creativity, and genuine care for people make her a wonderful part of The Gilded Garden team.
